Food Drive
Posted on Oct 22nd, 2024

The need is great, and we hope that all residents will be able to support the drive. Tables will be set up in the lobby of the clubhouse by the main entrance. Please have your donations in plastic bags or boxes. Some of the food items that are suggested are pasta and pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, condiments (especially mayonnaise and ketchup), cans of fruits and vegetables, tuna fish, peanut butter, jelly, and cereal. Please be sure to check expiration dates before dropping off donations.

The Backpack for Kids Program is also a special program managed by the SSCAC. They are particularly in need of:

Peanut butter, jelly or jam, cereal (small boxes), canned soup or stew, tuna, mac and cheese, heat-and-eat meals, green beans, corn, carrots (canned), canned fruit, pudding cups, granola bars, pretzels, goldfish (small bags), fruit snacks and roll-ups. PLEASE no glass containers. When donating items for the Backpack Program, be mindful that children are allowed to carry a maximum of 5 lbs. in their backpacks.

Checks are always welcome and should be made payable to SSCAC and left in the lock box that is near the signup rack labeled “all other activities.” Funds collected are allocated toward maintenance, utility costs for refrigeration and to replenish food items that decrease in inventory.

The South Shore Community Action Council (SSCAC)formed the Greater Plymouth Food Distribution Center with the goal of getting nutritional food to hungry people. Donated food is distributed to area food assistance programs including food pantries, soup kitchens, Meals on Wheels, Head Start, WIC, homeless shelters and family housing communities.
Your generosity will be very much appreciated.
