Pool Committee Needs Your Help
Posted on Aug 31st, 2023
One of the tasks of the Pool Committee is the daily testing of the pool water. The testing must be done by Certified Pool Operators (CPOs), who are resident volunteers. Over the past several months, 4 of our certified pool operators - all resident volunteers - have for various reasons resigned. We are down to 4 operators, and one of the four will be unavailable for two months. The Pool Committee needs to replace those 4 and would like to add several additional resident volunteers.
If we are able to get additional volunteers, the pool, when it reopens, can resume its normal schedule. If the Pool Committee is unsuccessful in finding new volunteers, it is likely that pool hours will have to be curtailed, as the cost of hiring commercial pool operators is prohibitive, and is certainly not budgeted for in this coming year’s budget.
There is a lead time involved in becoming a CPO. To become a CPO you must complete a training class and pass an exam. CPO training can be done either on line or with in person classes. The in person class is two days. The GIHOA pays the fees associated with this training.
Once you become certified, you will be paired with an existing CPO while you learn the ropes and the intricacies of our pool.
The position does require a person to be reasonably mobile as the job does require bending and kneeling. It does not require great strength.
With 8 or more CPOs we are able to rotate schedules so as to accommodate travel, illness and other personal needs.
To volunteer or for more information, contact the Pool Committee.
